There are 7 leading members who played for the world championship 2006. These players are; 2 power attackers, Verania Willis Lindo and Karen Cope Charles; 2 center attackers, Paola Ramirez Vargas and Angela Willis Lindo; 1 Libero, Marianela Alfaro Alfaro; 2 setters, Dionisia Thompson and Irene Fonse Caavila.
Q: How is the condition of your team?
The team has some difficulties. For some reason, the team has not practiced often as a team over few months. Furthermore, we have not been able to access to the weight lifting facilities. As a result, the team members have not spent time together as long as we want.
Q: What aspects of the game do you need to improve in particular before the World Championship?
Our player have to learn to trust each other through sharing time and playing tough matches.
Q: What is your team’s target in this year’s World Championship?
Firstly, we will make best efforts to win against Algeria. Secondly, we want to learn how to play against world best teams through the world championship games.
Q: Have you some exciting, talented young players we must watch out for in Japan?(photo)
Mijal Hines Cuza, who is 16 years old and Mariela Quesada who is 23 years old are the young talented players, though the team is still lead by veteran captain Verania Willis, her sister Anglela Willis and setter Dionisia Thompson.
Q: How do you think about other teams in your Pool A?
Our rivals are all very strong. It is an honor for Costa Rica to play against the host Japan.
Q: Which team is the greatest competitor for you?
Algeria
Q: Is there any message for fans looking forward to the World Championship?(photo)
Costa Rica is a small country. The players practice on ‘cement courts’ but we want to show our ‘fighting spirit’. We have learned how to compete against world best teams by overcoming their difficulties.
